Allergies at The Heschel School
Cater To You takes careful measures not to prepare or serve meals that contain peanuts or tree nuts - our kitchens at The Heschel School are nut free. Extensive allergy awareness training through third-party certifiers AllerTrain™ and ServSafe has been completed by your General Manager, Sous Chefs, and Junior Sous Chefs. In addition, all other CTY team members serving The Heschel School community receive annual allergy awareness training as part of the Cater To You Back-to-School training programming.
All parents of students with allergies work directly with General Manager, Taisha Perry, ensuring that your child(ren)’s specific allergy needs or special dietary needs are met safely. Every August, Taisha meets with each allergen student and his/her parent(s) to discuss their specific allergy requirements. All allergy-free lunches have specific protocols for preparation, packaging, holding, and serving. Parents are welcome to visit the kitchen and see the daily execution of meal service anytime. Additionally, parents are welcome to contact Taisha either through email or her personal phone.
Daily Protocols
Allergy-free meals are prepared separately before lunch service prep starts, to prevent cross contact. Alternative foods for those that are allergic, intolerant, or have special dietary preferences (vegan, etc.) are always available.
For example, if the entree of the day is Teriyaki Salmon, we may also provide Grilled or Baked Tofu Teriyaki accompanied with any of the sides. Dairy-free options are prepared with dairy-free cheese and gluten-free diners can enjoy gluten-free pizza, sandwiches, pastas, and a host of other naturally gluten-free options.
